U-TURN – YOUTH TEAM
U-Turn is a volunteer Youth Ministry Team where
young people are given the opportunity to be
empowered over the course of a year to move into
the fullness of who they are created to be
U-Turn is a unique opportunity for young people to hang out together for a year and to see each other grow into amazing world changers. We may start out as teammates but end up becoming family with a mission to impact the world around us.
So how does it work?
U-Turn runs three days a week (Wednesday – Friday, plus normal meetings on Sunday), with Monday and Tuesdays off. The team supports various ministries within Servants of Jesus community giving us a platform to impact others.
The team are involved in running a weekly youth group at Kingswood, conducting a prayer space at the primary school and participating in a RE class.
The team also supports and runs the weekly Firepower Youth meetings every Friday night at the Servants of Jesus Centre, giving us the opportunity to empower young people and to be positive role models.
U-Turn are active participants and contributors to the Community Care charity run by the Servants of Jesus.
Within this charity there are different projects including the Refugee Program’ and ‘Hope Outreach’. (Community Care). Each week we assist in providing food packages, help with paying bills and social support. Both of these life enriching programs give the team an opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and encourage an outward focus.
During our time on U-Turn, we are encouraged to do things we might never have done before. We’re propelled into a deeper connection with God and His Kingdom. Each year we see personal transformation with each young person growing and overcoming past obstacles. We leave the year with a greater sense of freedom in who we are and with a direction for life.
Each member is given the opportunity to partake in a life-changing journey to another country. On Mission, we are used by God in incredible and miraculous ways. Past mission trips have included: Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Rome and Malta.
U-Turn is a life-changing year where you’ll grow closer to God, make friends for life and walk away forever changed. It provides direction for your future and a freedom to be yourself while having lots of fun.

U-Turn Leader: Amy Balam
I am passionate about seeing young people radically transformed by God and empowering them to go out to change the world. I love seeing young people realise their potential and giving them a platform to step into their calling. Leading U-Turn is the best role I have ever had, the team are the greatest group of people, who are not only my equal but also family. U-Turn is definitely a second family where we grow together and empower each other to thrive in life. We expect the unexpected and put Jesus at the centre always. I have a degree in Industrial Design, where I worked in the humanitarian sector utilising innovation to reduce maternal and neonatal mortalities in developing countries. I love bringing creative elements in U-Turn and strive at providing a creative atmosphere for team.”
